AISES Receives $1.32 Million in Scholarship Support from Intel for Native American STEM Students

The Intel Growing the Legacy Scholarship Program will support 20 graduate and 20 undergraduate students each year.  While this Program is not automatically renewing, awardees are encouraged to re-apply each year.  The Intel Growing the Legacy Scholarship Program includes financial support, mentorship, paid internship opportunities, and, upon successful graduation, employment opportunities with Intel. As Intel will provide opportunities for paid internships, students will also be evaluated based on their interest in participating in an Intel internship in Summer 2018.

Steven R. Nelson Native Educator Scholarship Program (http://educationnorthwest.org/nelsonscholarship/)

This scholarship program provides awardees with up to three years of annually renewable scholarships. Scholarship recipients will receive as much as $5,000 each year to pursue a master’s degree in education policy, leadership, technical assistance, research, or a related field. Five scholarships per year will be awarded—one for a resident of each state in the organization’s primary service region (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington). Applications for the Steven R. Nelson Native Educator Scholarship can be submitted annually from September 30 to December 31. No applications will be considered after December 31.


American Indigenous Research Association Certification (http://americanindigenousresearchassociation.org/certification/)

Beginning Fall 2015, with the first class starting September 29th, Salish Kootenai College (SKC) and the American Indigenous Research Association will offer a 15-credit Indigenous Research Methods and Methodologies Certification. The Indigenous research practices are connected, integrative and rooted in Indigenous peoples’ cultures. Students outside of SKC may be able to transfer continuing-education credits to their universities upon completion of the associated courses and electives. Since Time Immemorial (http:// indian-ed.org)

Since Time Immemorial (STI) is a ground-breaking curriculum initiative developed through a partnership of the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Office of Native Education and federally recognized Tribes in the state. The goal of the initiative is to incorporate a  basic framework of Indian history and tribal sovereignty into the K-12 curriculum in Washington state by establishing partnerships between school districts and local tribesThe STI website includes a wealth of primary resources including videos, documents and maps.
