As part of the “Research II” course for TNBL, Indigenous scholars will be meeting with students via Skype or in person. Each scholars will share their perspectives upon conducting Indigenous research in collaborative, respectful ways, informed by traditional knowledge. These meeting are open to all students.  The first two meetings are described below.

September 19th

Dr. Don Pepion, Aamskapipiikani (Blackfeet). College Professor of Anthropology, New Mexico State University. Dr. Pepion lectures extensively upon Indigenous Research Methods and cultural protocols.

September 26th

Dr. Hilario Chi Canul, Yucatec Maya. Professor of Maya, University of Quintana Roo; Actor; Film industry consultant. Dr. Chi Canul forces upon bilingual education and Maya language revival. He has been involved in numerous public projects involving the Maya language, including Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto. Dr. Chi Canul is visiting courtesy of the Language, Literacy, & Technology Program in the College of Education.
