Campus News & Events

— August 23, 2022 —

Colleagues,

Welcome to the start of the fall semester, and a special welcome to our new faculty and staff. It is exciting to have so many Cougs back on campus again. I would like to start with a note of gratitude for the faculty, staff, students, and community volunteers who made WSU Pullman’s Week of Welcome such an overwhelming success. Michael and I have enjoyed getting to meet many of our new and returning Cougs over the last couple of weeks. We are looking forward to a busy and productive fall semester and encourage each of you to take advantage of all the activities happening on campus and in our community over the next several months—hopefully I will see you at one of the many events. There are many opportunities to enjoy all that the Palouse has to offer.

When I began my role as chancellor in January, one of my top priorities has been to help establish an identity for the WSU Pullman campus that is distinct from, and in support of, the WSU system. One of the first steps in this initiative is the development of the first WSU Pullman strategic plan, an effort led by tri-chairs Jaime Nolan, Craig Parks, and Mary Rezac, and which will be released this fall. We are also establishing a weekly WSU Pullman newsletter—the first of which you are reading right now. This newsletter will share news, events, and important announcements that are specific to the WSU Pullman campus and community. A special thank you to Vice President Phil Weiler and the University Marketing and Communications team for their support.

I’m looking forward to meeting with many of you this fall. When I am not singing with the Palouse Choral Society, attending local concerts, symposia, Cougar sporting events, or visiting the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, you will often find me, Michael, and our two rambunctious dogs taking “beauty breaks” exploring the amazing outdoor sites on the Palouse.

Again, welcome and welcome back, and I look forward to spending time with you soon.

Go Cougs!
