‘Coffee with a Cop’ day, Oct. 5

Police Chief Gary Jenkins and Police Sgt. Dawn Daniels will host WSU’s annual “Coffee with a Cop” day on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Visit the main entrance of the CUB to meet with Jenkins and Daniels and enjoy some coffee, cocoa, and snacks. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend. Other officers on duty will stop by as well.


Oct. 6: Schweitzer Engineering Hall Pre-Design Open House

The Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture is hosting a community open house on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 4–6 p.m. in ETRL 101 and 119 on the Pullman campus. The WSU community can give their thoughts and input to help shape WSU’s investment in supporting generations of future problem solvers.


Friday, Oct. 7: Opening reception for two exhibitions

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art will host an opening reception Friday, Oct. 7, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to celebrate the exhibitions Juventino Aranda: Esperé Mucho Tiempo Pa Ver and Our Stories, Our Lives: Irwin Nash Photographs of Yakima Valley Migrant Labor.

Increasing evidence that bears are not carnivores

Bears are not cats or dogs, and feeding them like they are likely shortens their lives. A new WSU study in Scientific Reports on the diets of giant pandas and sloth bears adds more evidence that bears are omnivores like humans and need a lot less protein than they are typically fed in zoos.


Community helping identify subjects in Nash photo archive

The collaborative effort seeks to tell the stories behind WSU archive images of migrant farmworkers in the Yakima Valley photographed 50 years ago.
