Dear Pullman Campus Colleagues,
The last few weeks have flown by with so many wonderful activities and events happening on campus. I am especially excited to be writing to you today, November 8, for a number of reasons:
- It’s National First-Gen Day! As a first-generation college student, I know well how critical it is to have resources and services to support our First at WSU students. We have a series of events scheduled on campus for individuals to learn more and to celebrate the opening of the new First-Generation Student Center in the CUB. See the full list of activities online, and I hope to see you at the faculty and staff open house between 4–6 p.m.
- Today marks the official 25th anniversary of WSU signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with federally recognized tribes in the state of Washington — thirteen tribes have signed the MOU with WSU to date. November is Native American Heritage Month, and it is important to acknowledge that the Pullman campus is located on the traditional homelands of the Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) Tribe and Palus peoples. Learn more about the activities surrounding Native American Heritage Month on the Native American Programs website.
- It’s Election Day and #CougsVote. I strongly encourage everyone to do their part and vote — your voice matters. If you are a Washington resident, be sure to drop off or mail your ballot before 8 p.m. WSU is also hosting a Voting Hub in the CUB Senior Ballroom today, where individuals can register to vote, pick up voter pamphlets, and print ballots.
I also want to thank everyone who stopped by our open house last week. Michael and I enjoyed seeing so many new faces and connecting with students, colleagues, and community members. Sammie and Lola wanted to make sure we thanked everyone for the pets and endless games of fetch…and the delicious slider from Birch and Barley that Lola snatched from one of you. 🙂
All the best, and Go Cougs!
Elizabeth

P.S. — Congrats to our men’s and women’s basketball teams for an undefeated start to their seasons. Looking forward to cheering you on in Beasley.
