Chancellor’s Open House

Join Chancellor Elizabeth Chilton and First Gentleman Michael Sugerman from 4–6 p.m. on Nov. 2 and 11 a.m.–1 p.m on Nov. 3 at the Chancellor’s House for a celebration of the fall season. Enjoy light refreshments and live performances featuring faculty and students of the WSU School of Music.


Public Square Discussion: Banned Books

The Center for Civic Engagement will host a distinguished panel to discuss the phenomenon of banning books and what it means for students, families, educational institutions, libraries, and others at 3 p.m on Thursday, Nov. 3, in Butch’s Den in the lower level of the Compton Union Building.


Registration open for WSU Military-Affiliated Student Symposium

The symposium takes place 9 a.m.–4 p.m. in the CUB Senior Ballroom on Nov. 10 and will feature speakers including James Cook, a retired general, trainer for the Veteran’s Affairs Administration, and former CEO of a Fortune 100 company who runs a nonprofit organization focusing on veteran transition and resiliency.


Submit Fall Family Weekend events

All departments, colleges, and organizations are invited to submit events for Fall Family Weekend 2022, happening Nov. 11–13. Family Weekends are a great way to connect with students’ families, alumni, donors, and other members of the extended Coug family.


Reception and book release for renowned artist Keiko Hara

Hara will be available for a book signing of “Keiko Hara: Four Decades of Paintings and Prints” as well as an informal tour of her exhibition from 4–6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU.


Honors seeks new course proposals by Nov. 18

Faculty from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for new courses to be taught to Honors students starting in fall 2023.

Math Professor Judi McDonald was chosen by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee as a voting member of the WSU Board of Regents from a pool of candidates submitted by the WSU Faculty Senate.


Q*Hort orientation helps LGBTQ+ students find a community at WSU

Q*Hort was created in 2019 as a space for incoming LGBTQ+ students to find a community. It drew about 100 participants to the university this fall.


Terry Umbreit inducted into State of Washington Tourism Hall of Leadership

Though nearly 15 years have passed since Terry Umbreit (’84), professor emeritus of hospitality, retired from a distinguished academic career at WSU, the excellence of his work is still being recognized.


Look inside WSU’s collection of 3 million insects

A resource for teaching and research, WSU’s collection of insects, arachnids, and myriapods is the largest in Washington, expanding by tens of thousands of collected and donated specimens every year.
