WSU Libraries response
As part of the university’s financial recovery plan, we have been given a target amount to hold back for FY18. Collections were spared from this calculation and we received an additional $500 thousand in funding to preserve our subscriptions.
As you know, we have consistently held several vacant positions that have opened due to retirements and resignations, and have hired positions back very slowly and strategically. This has allowed us to meet every financial challenge without drastic action. We can meet the targeted cut for FY18 through these reserves, although it will mean not hiring as many positions as we hoped to this year. So for the Libraries it will be business as usual. It is important to note that we will not lose the funds we are holding and eventually we will be able to fully utilize them to help with important projects.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
