WSU Together:

Greek chapters promote social distancing

  • March 12, 2020

In step with Washington State University’s decision to move to distance learning, members of the WSU interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils have decided to take their own measures to promote social distancing in response to the COVID-19 situation.

The Panhellenic Council, the governing body of some of WSU’s sororities, has immediately suspended all social events to limit large gatherings. Panhellenic President Megan Gould said the temporary ban could eventually include other types of events should the situation with COVID-19 change.

Similarly, Interfraternity Council President Aaron Fandel and his group issued an executive order, effective immediately, aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19 by banning events with alcohol, reducing programming and service requirements.

The executive order stipulates that each fraternity is required to hold its members accountable for individual behaviors and violations of organizational bylaws. The policy will be reviewed every other week by the Council to determine when the pandemic has subsided enough to reinstate these measures.
