DESCRIPTION:The Office of Native American Programs at Washington State University\, Seeks Dedicated\, Full-Time Staff Members \n \nNative American Retention Specialist \nThe Retention Specialist provides undergraduate students\, who identify as Native American\, with academic\, cultural\, and social support that will contribute to the completion of degrees and professional development. The Specialist oversees all aspects of the Native American Student Center and related retention efforts. This includes program development\, student data management\, and the supervision of temporary/hourly student employees. Additionally\, the Retention Specialist teaches for-credit classes in the Tribal Nation Building Leadership Program\, preparing Native students as future leaders\, and coordinates summer internship opportunities. \nMinimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred and may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis. Knowledge and competency regarding Native American cultures is essential. \nNative American Outreach Coordinator \nThe Outreach Coordinator assists with increasing enrollment of Native American students to WSU through early outreach and recruitment efforts within tribal communities and by developing programming consistent with this goal. The Outreach Coordinator must be a strong leader and a positive role-model\, with excellent time management skills and a deep commitment to education. Additionally\, this person must understand the needs of Native American youth and be familiar with what is required to apply for college and the scholarships/financial aid/resources available. They must be knowledgeable of the college experience and opportunities\, majors\, and potential careers relevant to majors.  Duties include travel to Native communities and events\, coordinating summer camps and campus visitations\, and leading student employees engaged in outreach. \nMinimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of work experience in student services or related education/experience.
