WSU community invited to first-ever virtual celebration May 9

Washington State University is hosting its first-ever system-wide virtual celebration for all graduating students and their families Saturday, May 9.

While the event officially kicks off at 10 a.m., viewers can check out the favorite memories of graduates beginning at 9:45 a.m. These memories can be shared anytime ahead of the event on social media using the hashtag #CougGrad.

The live celebration will be broadcast through the university’s Experience WSU website. Closed captioning and sign language interpretation will be provided.

During the event, college deans will present graduates as a group to the provost and president. WSU President Kirk Schulz will then confer degrees to the graduating class. The university will also recognize graduates individually by displaying their names and degrees via an online roster. Butch will also lead the Coug community in the singing of the WSU fight song.

Formal spring commencement events are being rescheduled. WSU Pullman will host its in‑person commencement ceremony on Aug. 8, while both WSU Everett and WSU Tri‑Cities are hosting its in‑person commencement on August 15. WSU Vancouver and WSU Health Sciences Spokane are currently reviewing possible dates for in‑person events in the fall.
