The Baghavad Gita

Cosmology and Ethics

The Baghavad Gita became, over time, one of the central religious texts of Hinduism. One reason for the Gita's religious significance is Krishna's explanation of the relationship between a Hindu cosmology--based on concepts such as dharma, karma, and samsara--and the ethical life of the individual. We can all, to a certain extent, sympathize with the difficult dilemma faced by Arjuna--even though we are not princes ourselves. Krishna's teaching, then, is meant to be instructive, not just to Arjuna, but to anyone who looks for guidance in making an ethical choice.

Krishna's Argument

The Bhagavad Gita is essentially a long argument, by Krishna, to convince Arjuna that he should fight against his enemies, despite the fact that they are his relatives. For your assignment, you should summarize Krishna's argument, referring to at least three of the Hindu concepts defined in the glossary. In other words, you should clearly define the relationship between Hindu cosmology and Hindu ethics. Use one paragraph for each of the concepts that you discuss. Be sure to provide transitions between each of your paragraphs to indicate how the concepts relate to each other.
