Cougars set record in classroom and on hardwood.

Thursday was a day of distinction for the Cougar men’s basketball team. The same day a magical season ended with a Sweet 16 loss to North Carolina, WSU’s student-athletes set a record for achievement in the classroom: for the first time in school history, five of them were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team in the same season.

Robbie Cowgill

Robbie Cowgill, Daven Harmeling, and Taylor Rochestie were named to the first team, while teammates Aron Baynes and Nikola Koprivica were selected to the second team.

Second consecutive year three named first team
The selections mark the second consecutive season and only the second time in school history the Cougars have earned three spots on the conference’s academic first team. Arizona's Bret Brielmaier and Stanford's Taj Finger round out the first team.

Cowgill not only was named to the first team, he also recently was selected as the Pac-10 Scholar Athlete of the Year. A native of Austin, Texas, Cowgill was picked for the conference’s all-academic team for the third straight year, becoming the second WSU men’s basketball student-athlete to accomplish the feat (Carlos Daniel, 1996-98).

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or a significant contributor.
